Thankful Q & A

November 05, 2018

I'm freshly back from Tennessee so everything feels slightly out of sorts. The one thing I am certain of - November is here! it's my birthday month so I intend to make the most of it.

To start, here's a little Thanksgiving Q & A to get the month rolling!

1. Have you ever kept a gratitude journal - yes or no?
Absolutely, and I still do! I'm rounding out the one I've used for the last several years and I've already got my next one picked out.

This is my current journal

2. Hosting Thanksgiving at your house - yes or no?
I made Thanksgiving dinner for myself and an ex many years ago and I thought it was pretty easy. I've been watching it be done my entire life so I don't get overwhelmed about it. You want me to host for 6 or 10?  I got it!

3. Favorite food from the Thanksgiving meal?
Hmm, I'm pretty basic about this because I love my spuds so I'm going to have to say mashed potatoes. They just pull it all together - literally. My favorite thing to do is load them up with turkey, corn, peas, cranberry, and go to town!

4. What one thing in nature are you most grateful for?
This is hard. I thrive outside so it's hard to pick just one thing, but I suppose I'd have to say the ocean. It restores me in ways I can't even explain.

5. Pumpkin pie - yes or no?
Absolutely! I've been a fan of pumpkin before it became the go-to flavor. There's just something special about it and pumpkin pie is incredibly easy to make!

6. Traditional cookbook - yes or no?
I'm not really a by-the-book cook, but traditional. I talked about the kitchen bible and how it was handed down to me from my mother, and grandmother. It's missing a few 50 pages or so {I have them though!} but it's the best!

7. Oven baked or deep-fried turkey?
I've never had a deep-fried turkey so i can't knock it... but I'm not going out of my way to try it either. I like the aromatics of the seasonings as it cooks.

8. Thanksgiving leftovers - yes or no?
That's a big hell yes! Both the night of and the day after. if you ask my mom there's nothing better than a cold turkey sandwich later on in the evening.

9. What is one household product you are most grateful for?
Another tough one. I don't have one but I want to say dishwasher. It just makes cleanup so easy! But, if it's something I do own, it has to be the crock-pot! So little effort and you're rewarded with a hot, delicious meal!

10. Are you most grateful for home cooked meals or restaurant meals?
Without a doubt, home cooked. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate meals out, but something home cooked is so much more personal. Time, consideration, and love all went into the dish. At least that's the way I look at it when I'm cooking for someone.
